Books 'n Stuff

I'm really into m/m romance.  SciFi is my favorite genre and when I can find a well written, sexy m/m romance in that genre I am in heaven.

Readers block.  Is there such a thing?  I think so, because I am experiencing it.  No matter how hard I try or how far I search, the books that keep me interested are far and few between.  Why?  Is it me?  Is it the choices I have to pick from?  I have my favorites and I strive to find more books like what I know I like, but I can't seem to find many of them. (I have to say, the last books I loved were Maris Black's KAGE 1 & 2).  I love m/m.  I used to be an avid fan of m/f historical romances.  In fact, it's all I read for years.  But my horizons have been broadened since then. I know what I like now, but I can't seem to very often find what I desire in a m/m romance.

When I first began reading the m/m romance genre I couldn't get enough.  It seemed like the books that hooked me and had me forever addicted to this genre were numerous and I devoured them.  I would read for hours at a time.  Several of my fave authors either hardly ever release books anymore or write mostly m/f now.

Also, it looks like the books I desire to read are not what is "popular" anymore.  I want the angst.  I want to cry because one m/c is cold and heartless (or so it seems), only to find out he is afraid to show his feelings, and has realistic reasons for feeling that way.  I want my other m/c to cry about it and get angry.  I want that 'harlequin' feel that seems to be lost to me.  Only I want it in m/m.

I love one m/c to be smaller and a bit effeminant while the other is big, dominant, Alpha.  And the top.  Am I old fashioned?  Not really.  I just know what my kinks are.

I also love BDSM when it's done well and with intelligence.  I don't want an author to write BDSM just because it's popluar but because he/she understands that world and how it makes the participants feel.  I want emotions, angst, misunderstandings (again, done well and with a heavy dose of realism).  Don't give me PWP with too much sex.  But DO give me sex.  And enough with the insta-love.  Give me depth, show me how they fall in love.  Don't just TELL me they do.  I want their conversations, their insecurities.  The tender moments only true lovers experience.  Give me a love story I want to come back to.  Characters that pull my heart strings and make me believe in love.  I want to hate that the book is coming to an end.  Curse the fact that I have to wait for a sequel.  I just want that FEELING.  I've missed it so badly.

So please, I welcome suggestions and recommendations.  (I also LOVE sci-fi m/m romance.)

Kinda Good But Coulda Been Betta

The Captain's Pet - Samantha Cayto

Not bad at all but I felt there was so much more potential to be had.  More showing than  just telling during the 'getting-to-know-you' stage.  Would have liked a little more world building but over all it wasn't a bad story.  I would probably check out this author again.

*** Also ended up being strictly mm.  No girly bits here :D

M/M/F instead of M/M?

The Captain's Pet - Samantha Cayto

Yeah, maybe I didn't read the fine print, but I'm thinking this will end up being mmf instead of the mm I want it to be.

I'm not a fan of country music, but the first time I heard this song, I was hooked.  Anyone else feel the same?  Any other fans here of this song?  I do have to say, though, that the video does not match the song AT ALL and that bothers me.  I mean, really, stop trying to be all artsy fartsy or attempting to make some kind of social statement and give me an entertaining video.  Show me the singer actually approaching a girl in a bar and having a freaking stimulating convo.  I don't really need or want all the extra BS.  Just sayin.

Can someone, ANYONE, tell me why I have double covers when I post updates or reviews?

Phoenix Rising

Phoenix Rising - C.J. Bishop Ok, yes, this series has wayyy too much sex, lube and condoms are rarely used and sometimes the angst is a little too much to take. HOWEVER, that being said, I want these men to actually exist in real life. I want to have them over for dinner. I want to simply watch them interact together. Dear god, I would even like to be a voyeur and sit in on their little sexcapades. Some are downright sexy (Max and Dane, you know I'm talking about you). Others are sweet and dear (Able, Caleb and Angel *sighs*) And some of you are just downright dirty and dangerous (Cole, Gabe and last but definitely NOT least, Clint *I wanna have your baby* the Cowboy Gangster). These books took me by the hair and dragged me along like a caveman in his prime. He made me his bitch and I'm loving every second of it. I've had the pleasure of being able to read these books back to back but I can see some really bad withdrawals in my future when I finish Shot Through The Heart, but damn, it's worth the addiction. More please!

Spellbound - Marcus Atley This was a solid 3.5 stars for me. The constant head hopping and strange sentence structures nearly ruined it for me, though, which is why I couldn't give this story a full 5. This definitely could have used further editing prior to publishing. However, with that said, I would still recommend this one to fans of the genre. Stavros was just sexy as hell and his character pulled me in from the start. Elion was funny, down to earth and the perfect match for Stavros. Together they made a great team and the last third of the book grabbed me by the proverbial emotional balls and I couldn't put it down. I cried. I had feelz and Stavros just grabbed my heart and didn't let go. Looking forward to seeing what else the author offers.

Freedom - Jay Kirkpatrick Loved the first 3/4 of the book. Amazing sci-fi. The last 1/4 of the book dropped it one star because it became boring and I didn't really care how it ended. Also, NO SEX. At all. Zip, zero, nada. It felt, to me, like Jac and Patrick could've been brothers for all the chemistry I got between them. Jac and Rob had more chemistry. Gah!

The Forgotten One

The Forgotten One - Tricia Owens

I loved, loved, loved this newest installment of the Juxtan series! Hadrian and Caled are so sexy together. This was definitely worth the wait but I'm afraid Ms. Owens cannot write them fast enough for me, lol. I want the next book NOW.

Bliss - Lisa Henry Damn, this was really good!

The Luckiest

The Luckiest - Piper Vaughn, M.J. O'Shea I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. Sheer perfection!

One Indulgence

One Indulgence - Lydia Gastrell The beginning had me hooked. It was hot and sweet and the two MC's were so sexy together. The middle was boring, boring, boring. I skipped some, which isn't like me. I'm always afraid I'll miss something but I didn't care with this one. Then the end was angst~ridden and finally hot again.
